Your Poster Size Does Matter

The size of your posters can make a difference depending on the application. Different industries use standardized sizes to maintain consistency. The film industry is well known for plastering large format posters in different places such as bus stops, on building walls and outside of colleges and clubs. A very common movie poster size is 27″ x 40″ while the larger bus stop poster size can be 40″ x 60″. This also allows frame makers to mass produce frames made specifically for movie posters that do not need to be custom made.
Standard poster sizes start at 11″ x 17″ at the smallest size, 18″ x 24″ medium and the most common size being 24″ x 36″. These common sizes again serve the convenience of finding a huge variety of frames that fit exactly and the proportions are generally visually pleasing.
Custom poster sizes and materials are available as well. Canvas photo prints, for example, can be printed and cut proportionately on a canvas material that gives the image or photographs a finish that resembles that of an original painting on canvas. Glossy stock for concert posters and general advertisements are easily and quickly produced.

Indoor and Outdoor Banners

The placement of your poster or banner is key in determining the material to use. What’s the difference between indoors and outdoors? The elements. Wind, rain, and sun can wreak havoc on the shelf-life of a poster or banner. Paper posters are no match for water and wind, they just can’t go outside for an extended period of time. Plus, the Sun’s UV rays can slowly fade colors or yellow the paper. For outdoor applications, one of the best and most common materials is vinyl with UV cured inks that resist the elements. Vinyl banners are extremely strong against high winds and ripping. Fully waterproof, they can withstand long exposures to rain as well.
Indoor posters such as your typical motivational poster, band poster, vintage, typography and so on are printed on glossy card stock to give it sturdiness and the glossy finish makes the colors pop. They can also be mounted on a foamboard or gatorboard for use on easels or simply to display them on their own without the need for a frame. The options are endless.
